So, the month of Ramadan has returned and so are the buffets available at food establishments in hotels. This year, Concorde Hotel Shah Alam‘s Melting Pot Cafe is busy preparing 300 types of dishes for their patrons to enjoy and feast during break fast.
Themed “Citarasa Negeri Selat”, the chefs at Melting Pot Cafe is bringing authentic flavours all the way from the north to the south of Malaysia. You will be able to find authentic local dishes from Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Malacca and Johor. A vast choice for your taste buds!
Spoilt For Choice
Dates are very common in Ramadan, usually taken first for breaking fast. There are various selections of sweet dates available at the counter to break your fast before starting with the appetizers like Kerabu Betik Muda, Kerabu Daging Rusa, Kerabu Mangga Muda, Bergedil Ayam, Jeruk Buah-Buahan, Ulam-ulam Kampung and many types of Keropok. There’s also the Roast Corner where there’s Roasted Chicken, Beef and Fish served with sauces nearby.
Now comes the Main Dish section carrying the various “Citarasa Negeri Selat” choices to tempt your palate.
Melaka is always famous for it’s Asam Pedas.
Now, at this section you can not only find Asam Pedas but also other dishes that’s synonymous to Melaka such as Asam Pedas Ikan Pari, Asam Pedas Daging, Sotong Portugis, Ayam Cencaluk, Ikan Bawal Masam Manis, Sambal Udang Petai, Peria Goreng Telur and Pucuk Paku Goreng.
Selat Pulau Pinang
Anybody who goes to Pulau Pinang knows that Pulau Pinang is a food heaven. A person would gain at least 3 kilos of weight if they go to Pulau Pinang for a food trip.
Some of the Pulau Pinang specialties that you can find at the buffet are Ayam Goreng Berempah, Daging Rusa Bukhara, Kari Kepala Ikan, Ketam Goreng Berempah and Kobis Goreng Kunyit Biji Sawi.
The choices from Johor are not too bad either such as the Briyani Daging Rusa, Briyani Daging, Ayam Masak Merah, Kambing Kurma, Pucuk Manis Masak Lemak, Puyuh Goreng and Sayur Tempe Goreng. You should try the Briyani. Ohh they’re delicious!
Tiga Selat Corner
There’s a corner at the side of the restaurant that displays food choices from all three straits (selat). You can whet your appetite with food like Bubur Lambuk Ayam Dara Lada Hitam, Bubur Labuk Daging Batang Pinang, Sup Ayam Berempah, Mee Hoon Teochew, Mee Bandung, Ayam Tandoori Roti Naan, Laksa Johor and also Roti Benggali. There are also various soups available to wet your throat.
Of course, even though it is the Ramadan Buffet, it wouldn’t be right if there aren’t any continental dishes to add to the local dishes available. There are many choices of continental dishes available, from the starters to the main dishes too.
You can start with some salad at the salad bar such as Roman Salad, Mesclum Salad, Seafood Mediteranean Salad, Tomato Cucumber Salad and Carrots and Cashew Nuts Salad. There’s a choice of French Dressing, Caesar Dressing or Italian Dressing for your salads.
The must-try main dishes of this section will be the Baked Beef Kofta Chives Cheese Sauce, Marinated Chicken Cumin Lemon Yoghurt, Cajun Marinated Mini Beef Entrecote, Lemon Coriander John Dory, Green Peppercorn Marinated Beef Medallions and Baked Marinated Chicken in Barbeque Sauce.
